richard-p.jpgVirtua offers a full continuum of primary, preventative, wellness, acute and long-term care. Miller, Virtua’s CEO since 1998, has led the company in innovative directions by creating a values-based culture defined by the “Star Initiative,” adopting Six Sigma, a disciplined, data-driven approach and methodology for improving patient outcomes. Under his leadership the health care system has been transformed from a group of community-based hospitals into a technologically advanced set of regional medical centers.

Miller is a Mount St. Mary’s graduate, class of 1974, and holds a Master of Business Administration degree from Southern Illinois University.

“We are extremely excited that Mr. Miller will be joining our graduates for commencement,” said Mount St. Mary’s Interim President Timothy Trainor, Ph.D. “His career accomplishments, his demonstrated commitment to living out the values of the Mount, along with his extensive record of service on several boards set a great example for our graduates as they begin their lifelong career journeys.”

Miller serves on the operating committee of the board of Select Greater Philadelphia and the board of the University of the Sciences of Philadelphia. He has also been chairman of the board of trustees of the New Jersey Hospital Association, served on the Governor’s Committee on Benchmarking for Quality and Efficiency, and on the New Jersey Health Care Access Study Commission. He served on boards for the American Heart Association, the March of Dimes of Southern New Jersey, and is a past chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Southern New Jersey Board.

His many accolades and awards include Human Resources CEO of the Year by the HR Department of the Year Awards; the CEO IT Achievement Award from Modern Healthcare magazine; Healthcare CEO of the Year by the Philadelphia Business Journal; and the New Jersey Business Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement Award from New Jersey Junior Achievement.

Miller will also be receiving an honorary doctorate in humane letters.

Commencement exercises begin at 11 a.m. in the Mount’s PNC Sports Complex - Athletic Recreation Convocation Center (ARCC).
