Hoffman, M.Acc, CPA, CAFAE’s director and assistant professor and director of the Mount’s forensic accounting programs. It will also assist in attracting highly motivated students who want to be educated and enter the field of forensic accounting.

CAFAE’s purpose is to provide thought leadership on forensic accounting education and practice areas by sponsoring, conducting, and disseminating research in the field and profession, providing educational forums and events, and sponsoring activities to further student and practitioner advancements in the field. CAFAE focuses on research, best practices and practical guidance for educators and practitioners in furthering the disciplines of forensic accounting, including fraud prevention and investigation, litigation support and expert testimony, business valuation and transactional due diligence, and bankruptcy, insolvency and reorganization practice areas.

CAFAE will provide specific research grants to individuals and organizations both in academia and practice who conduct and disseminate research in the field of forensic accounting, including but not limited to papers, articles, books and other publications, and clinical and applied research. CAFAE will focus on research and development of methodology and practice that will improve the way higher education teaches students forensic accounting, and ways in which the practice of forensic accounting may be improved to further it as a science and to be effectively applied in the business world and courtrooms.

CAFAE will also sponsor educational events to promote the education and practice of forensic accounting. An annual two-day symposium will bring together professionals, academia and students engaged in the field of forensic accounting to learn latest developments and current topics of interest. The symposium will draw speakers and participants from professional practices, law enforcement, government, nonprofit organizations, educators and students. Among the speakers will be former convicted white-collar criminals to tell their stories of how they crossed the line, and the lessons learned as a result. The symposium will be a highly encouraged event for students entering and currently enrolled in the MSMU forensic accounting programs.

Academic and Practice Excellence

CAFAE will also recognize and award students, educators, practitioners, and others who demonstrate excellence and make extraordinary contributions to the field of forensic accounting. CAFAE will sponsor scholarships for students who demonstrate outstanding academic achievement in their studies as undergraduate majors in forensic accounting as well as annual awards for practitioners who demonstrated excellence and make a significant contribution to the field of forensic accounting.
