Mount St. Mary’s University will offer a new adult undergraduate completion degree in accounting beginning January 2018 at the Mount’s Frederick, Maryland campus.

The same curriculum will now be offered in an accelerated format to serve the regional business community.

“We’re very excited to bring this accelerated accounting program to our adult undergraduate students at the Frederick campus,” said Executive Director of Graduate, Continuing and Professional Studies Carol Rinkoff. “This program will allow students to benefit from not only faculty expertise, but also through networking with the Mount’s numerous partners in the accounting field.”

The percentage of students over age 25 enrolled in degree-granting universities between 2014 to 2025 will increase by 18 percent, according to the National Center for Education Statistics. This growth is greater than those under age 25, where there is only a predicted 13 percent growth during the same time. Degree completion programs at the Mount are designed for working adults age 23 and above. Classes are offered one evening per week in accelerated five- and eight-week sessions.

“Accelerated classes help our adult students juggle school with their life and career responsibilities,” explained Janene Petrie, director of accelerated undergraduate programs at the Frederick campus. “We’re thrilled to be able to provide a quality degree that will help them meet their specific career goals in a timely fashion, made even more convenient because of the location of our Frederick campus.”

Students who earn a degree in accounting can pursue careers as a financial planner, accountant, auditor or consultant, among other paths. In fact, Mount alumna Tamika Langley Tremaglio, C’92, was recently named Deloitte LLP’s greater Washington managing principal, and is now leading nearly 10,000 tax and financial professionals in the nation’s capital.

“The Mount has a plethora of great connections with alumni working at accounting firms nearby,” said Clare Tauriello, director of the Career Center. “Our alumni love to return to campus to recruit more Mount students to join their ranks at regular events, such as the annual accounting career fair.”

Mount students have found positions at top national and regional employers, including PwC, KPMG, Ernst & Young, Deloitte, CohnReznick and Kearney & Company.
