School of Education

Mount St. Mary's has a long standing partnership with St. Labre Indian Catholic School in Ashland, Montana. St. Labre graduates have been attending the Mount on scholarship for several years. The Division of Education is working with St. Labre to grow this partnership. In a first step toward evolving the relationship, St. Labre is hosting  our Education students and professors. The Mount team is in Ashland over fall break. Please watch the blog this week for updates from the group.

UPDATE:
We enjoyed a busy week learning and serving at St. Labre Indian Catholic School. Kelsie lead a book discussion with her sophomore English students on The True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie. Katie taught a Math class to her third-grade students as well as co-taught in other areas. Dr. Cook shared her hiking experiences and book about the Appalachian Trail to elementary students. Dr. Solar assisted Dr. Redgraves, the Curriculum Director, in analyzing data to support instructional changes. We ended the week by celebrating Pink-Out Day in support of breast cancer research and survivors.

Drs. Cook and Solar along with two MAT graduate students Kelsie Bittle and Katie Johnson are spending Fall Break teaching at St. Labre Indian Catholic School in Ashland, Montana. We began our trip by sightseeing and learning more about native history. At Pictograph State Park we walked to various areas to see cave drawings. Our second stop was at Little Big Horn Battlefield. After viewing a short informative video, we walked the trails and viewed the monuments. The picture is at the Native Monument with the Spirit Warriors sculpture. Before heading to our final destination, we enjoyed Crow Indian tacos for lunch at Custer Battlefield Trading Post.
