Daniel C. Grimes, a Mount St. Mary’s University graduate and former Frederick police officer, on December 5 took the oath of office as a FBI special agent at the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Grimes, C ’16, graduated with honors from the FBI Academy, attaining the title of Section ‘B’ Team Leader and receiving the FBI Director’s Award for Leadership. His first duty station assignment will be the Boston field division of the FBI.

Grimes attributes his accomplishments to those who mentored and encouraged him. “No one person ever deserves praise without recognizing the many others that have faith in you and mold your life,” Grimes said. “To be successful in law enforcement, respect for those you serve and the support you receive from your fellow officers and superiors is indispensable.”

Grimes, a native of Frederick, Maryland, attended Thomas Johnson High School and St. John Regional Catholic School. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2009, where he served in naval intelligence, both stateside and abroad until 2012. While stationed in Japan in 2011, Grimes, who had prior paramedic training, waived leave to assist those injured in the aftermath of their great tsunami.

Upon his return to civilian life, Grimes became a Frederick city police officer, graduating from that academy in June 2014 with honors. While serving on the Frederick police force, he enrolled at the Mount, majoring in criminal justice and graduating in May 2016. He furthered his educational pursuits in the master of business administration program at Mount St. Mary’s.

Grimes will be pursuing his career in Boston with his wife, Mary Beth, and two daughters. His mother, Terry Joyce, is a Frederick County public school teacher at New Market Elementary School.
