Banff Mountain Film Festival Returns to the Mount

Banff feature

Twin Galaxies: A Greenland Epic.

The Banff Mountain Film Festival World Tour will return for its twelfth year to Knott Auditorium at Mount St. Mary’s University, at 7 p.m. on April 23 and 24. This year’s selection of eight films per night showcases over 2 hours of amazing cinematography telling powerful stories that reflect a wide range of mountain experiences and portraits from mountain sports, culture and mountain environment to adventure.

Selected from 400 entries, this year’s tour features a collection of the most inspiring and thought-provoking action, environmental, and adventure mountain films with stops in 550 locations in 40 countries in all seven continents. The Mount is one of only two stops in Maryland; both nights are sold out for this popular film festival.

The Banff World Tour in Emmitsburg is hosted by Outdoor Adventures at Mount St. Mary’s University and sponsored locally by The Trail House in Frederick. “The Mount, as well as the surrounding area, has a vibrant outdoor community, and so we knew the festival would thrive here on campus,” said Chris Duffy, director of the Mount’s Outdoor Adventures, which provides the Mount community with fun, safe adventure experiences that teach life skills, strengthen the Mount community, encourage personal growth and promote environmental awareness.

Film selections include:

  • Twin Galaxies: A Greenland Epic – Three intrepid explorers, equipped with kite-skis and kayaks, explore Greenland.
  • Johanna – Diving under the ice offers a surreal, calming environment that helps heal the injuries of freediver Johanna Nordblad.
  • The Last Honey Hunter – This film profiles the only remaining man in a remote Nepalese village with the blessing of a powerful forest spirit that allows him to harvest honey.
