Career Corner Introduction

The Career Corner blog spotlights the professional development and achievement of all students at the Mount while simultaneously informing our community about what's going on in our one-of-a-kind Career Center. My name is Grace Bovard and I am delighted to be presented with the opportunity to write on behalf of the Career Center as their new Writing Intern.

I am a senior communication major at the Mount. I would like to say a special thanks to the Career Center team for trusting me to be the voice of the Career Corner this semester and am excited to write articles that help students move toward their own unique success.

My main goal for this semester’s blog is to write articles that tackle the challenges young adults face in their professional environments and provide stress-free ways to be successful in the working world. I would like to find new and fun ways to help students build their confidence when working toward their future careers, and offer innovative tips and tricks for professional development as a rising adult. The Career Center also offers a variety of events and services that I will highlight to remind students that the Mount is here to help when planning future steps.

Our previous intern, Meghan Wittmer, did an excellent job of writing captivating and inspiring articles for our Mount community to enjoy. I would like to continue her success with the Career Corner by publishing equally motivating articles. The Career Center offers a wide array of student-centered services that benefit our school and prepare our students for life after graduation. I encourage all students to stop by the Career Center and get to know our professional team. Thanks to their hard work and the success of Mount students, our university was ranked No. 1 for employment in Maryland and No. 21 for employment in the nation this year. Let’s keep that ranking, stop by the Career Center today!

In the past three years, I have completed a variety of internships where I learned about myself and my professional strengths. As a freshman, I interned with the Mount Career Center as their marketing intern. It was here where I learned how to voice my professional ideas and be confident while navigating a work environment. I use the skills that I learned in our Career Center to continue my professional experience while interning with Devaney & Associates, Inc. and Johns Hopkins University. Three years ago, I was the youngest candidate for the Career Center’s marketing internship, and I had little to no experience. A week later, I received a call offering me the position. Interviewing can be a scary experience, but our Career Center team saw my potential and took a risk by hiring me. I am grateful for that opportunity and all of the opportunities that have been presented to me since.

Around the Mount, I am an editor for the Mountain Echo and a Writing Center Tutor. I take pride in the work I have accomplished, but would not be anywhere if it weren’t for the people who took a chance on me and taught me the value of professional development. I feel blessed to be back with the Career Center this semester, and I hope to have an equally inspiring experience that I can share with our Mount community.

Please stop by the Career Center in the McGowan Center, Suite 240 and get to know our team. We are looking forward to your visit! You can also schedule a meeting with any of our professional experts by emailing career-center@msmary.edu or visiting our website to request an appointment.
