Mount Presents Xavier DeCaire With Pride of the Mount Award

Xavier feature

Mount St. Mary's University recently presented Xavier J. DeCaire, C'73, with the Pride of the Mount Award. This award is given to individuals who have demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to the university through generous sharing of their resources, time and talent.

DeCaire, former principal of George J. Weiner Associates in Wilmington, Delaware, recently completed a nearly 10-year term on the Mount St. Mary's Board of Trustees through which he provided leadership and guidance to the university. He served as chair of the Advancement Committee and as a member of the Executive Committee. In presenting the award to DeCaire, President Timothy E. Trainor, Ph.D., praised his "can-do spirit."

"Xavi makes things happen! Here at the Mount he launched a program to encourage the Mount community to honor their family members and classmates by naming the benches and Adirondack chairs here on campus. In just a few short months, over $160,000 was raised," Trainor said. "He also led his class’s campaign to name the Class of 1973 Cottage." In addition, he is well known for promoting the Mount to prospective students and benefactors.

DeCaire is also actively involved in his community of Newark, Delaware. He and his son, Nick, have been raising funds to build Preston’s Playground in Newark. This all-inclusive playground is designed so all children, no matter their physical abilities, can play together on safe adaptive playground equipment.
