The West Carroll Marauders Rugby program's Annual Cow Pie 7s Rugby Tournament grew this year by moving the tournament to Mount St. Mary's University, allowing organizers to expand the number of teams involved and play all games on full regulation-size fields. The fifth annual tournament, held July 14 at the Mount, featured 29 teams from Maryland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Washington, DC and the United Kingdom playing a total of 60 matches on three pitches.

“It was an absolute pleasure hosting the 5th Annual Cow Pie 7s Rugby Tournament! I want to especially thank our amazing university for making our resources available, which allowed young players to experience quality rugby in a college setting," said Jay Myles, director of men's rugby at the Mount.

In the boy’s brackets all three champions were undefeated. Vienna (VA) Boys went 6-0 to collect the boys’ varsity championship, and Cumberland Valley Youth (PA) swept the middle school bracket. In the girls' bracket Downingtown (PA) defeated Fort Hunt (VA) 32-0 in pool play, but in the final Fort Hunt pulled off the upset and took the final.

Yarm School from the northeast of England became the first international competitor, entering two sides in the boys’ junior varsity pool and dominating the competition by winning all their matches before the two UK sides met in the final.

The West Carroll Marauders are a youth and high school rugby club for boys and girls, with members from both Carroll and Frederick counties.
