Paige Roberts Presented Paper at International Communication Conference

Paige Roberts, Class of 2021, represented Mount St. Mary's University at the Fourth Biennial Philosophy of Communication Conference at Duquesne University on June 13, 2019.

roberts-in-text.jpgRoberts, who is a communication major and honors student, presented her research paper titled “Marketing the Best a Man Can Get: Gillette’s Professional Civility Strategies.” She examined how the recent Gillette ad about masculinity reflected ethical values of humanity and recognition of dignity among all people.

“Presenting my ideas at an international philosophy of communication conference next to distinguished and incredibly intelligent graduate students was intimidating at first, but ultimately allowed for such a boost in confidence," Roberts said. The subject of my paper is something that I have become increasingly passionate about upon conducting research for it and having this opportunity allowed me to gain experience presenting to professionals in the field. IMC is a special area of study that combines both of my interests in marketing as well as communication, which assisted me in sharpening my skills in both subjects and has greatly benefited my writing and research skills.”

Her paper was based on a research paper from the integrated marketing communication course taught by Assistant Professor Brian Gilchrist, Ph.D., in the Spring 2019 semester.

"Paige delivered a compelling presentation, answered questions from audience members, and served as an excellent representative of our Mount community," Gilchrist said. "We thank Paige for her commitment to scholarship."
