Navigating Your Career During COVID-19

Here are some timely reminders about navigating the job and internship search.

At this time of the semester, it is easy to feel a little lost. Midterms, papers and exams require students to go full force, and applications are beginning to open for winter internships. Trying to navigate courses, prepare for advising week and explore internships for the winter break can cause students to feel overwhelmed and lost in setting the direction for their career.

As a senior, many of my peers are feeling the pressure to start looking for a job or to finish their graduate school applications. Whether you are a senior or just starting your Mount success story, it is easy to feel lost right now with the current stressful environment due to COVID-19 and the presidential election. You may be wondering where you can even go with your major right after graduation or how to take the next steps to develop yourself for your chosen career path. Or maybe you are a student who is not sure what career path would suit you. The stress and anxiety of searching for a career, particularly this semester, can cause you to feel alone.

This week on the blog, the Career Center wants you to know that you are not alone. There are so many rich resources on campus that can help you navigate the stress of finding the right career. One of these main resources is career counseling. The Career Center offers career counseling by appointment to help meet your individual needs. You can schedule an appointment online or choose to join virtually during our walk-in hours on Tuesday or Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

It is easy to feel alone in searching for a career that fits your needs, and career counseling is available so that you are not facing these next steps alone. These one-on-one meetings with one of our career counselors will help you to feel more confident, get more information on your chosen career field, introduce a career field that might be of interest to you and more. To sign up for a one-on-one visit with a Career Center counselor visit our website.

Another wonderful resource that you can use on campus to help reduce some of the stress and anxiety of searching for a job is counseling services. There are three counselors on campus that offer both in-person and Zoom sessions. These services are free and confidential. Navigating your career and school can be challenging, but as always you are never alone. These two resources can help you to find the path that is right for you and reduce stress from the unique challenges you are facing as a student. You can move mountains!
