Mount Seminarian Named Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown, Barbados

Rev. Neil Sebastian Scantlebury, S'95, was a priest for the Diocese of Saint Thomas in the Virgin Islands and has been named the new Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown, Barbados. He is the first native Barbadian to be appointed a Bishop.

bishop scantleburyThe Holy Father, Pope Francis, made the announcement on Monday, December 28 at noon, Vatican City time. The announcement from the Vatican reads: “Bishop-elect Neil Sebastian Scantlebury, formerly Pastor of St. Thomas in the US Virgin Islands and Chancellor and Parish Priest of St. Ann Parish in St. Croix Island, who becomes Bishop of the Diocese of Bridgetown, Barbados.”

Father Scantlebury’s Episcopal Ordination will be held on March 17, 2021, the Feast Day of St. Patrick and will take place at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Cathedral in Bridgetown.

Bishop-elect Scantlebury is the 53rd Bishop from the Mount.
