Hello and welcome to my first blog of the semester! In this first blog post, I will be introducing myself and sharing my career aspirations and other interests at the Mount.
My name is Angelica Tyler, and I am a fourth-year student at Mount St. Mary’s University. In the Spring of 2022, I will be graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree. I am majoring in Communication with a focus in Broadcast Journalism.
When I applied for schools during my senior year of high school, I was looking for a school close to home, one that was small and comforting. One day when I checked the mail, I noticed an envelope that said Mount St. Mary’s on it. When I opened it, there was a brochure that sparked my interest in applying, and that’s when I made an appointment to tour the campus.
When I first stepped foot on the campus, I immediately fell in love with the peaceful and rural atmosphere of the Mount. During my tour, the theatre program initially inspired me to apply. I had an idea that I wanted Communication to be my major while possibly having a minor in theatre. I grew up listening to the radio for most of my life and traveled to New York City to watch the live NBC’s TODAY Show in Rockefeller Center. Witnessing behind the scenes with cameras to studying the News Anchors, I immediately knew that I wanted to pursue a career in broadcast journalism. As a student, I have had the opportunity to have a show on the Mount's radio station through the Radio Practicum and I'm working on podcast production this semester through my internship.
For my blog, my theme will be based on self-improvement and self-development. In my posts, I will write things from my perspective and how I overcame situations through obstacles that have made me a better individual. Check back for future posts to learn more about how you can find yourself as a student at the Mount, and check out my classmates' views, too!
