Introduction Post

Russell Armstrong, C'22

I am Russell Armstrong, and currently, I am a junior at the Mount. However, I will be graduating a year early this spring. Initially what sparked my interest in the university was the tennis team. My research was pretty much obsolete on the academic side as I was young and in a hurry to get the college search process over with as soon as possible. I was fortunate enough that the Mount offers a strong business program, paired with a high rate of job placement post-graduation. Over my time at the Mount, I have learned to appreciate the higher degree of education that the school offers through its core curriculum.

I am taking COMM 301 this semester to hopefully pick up new skills and capabilities. I believe that being able to successfully convey your message no matter what the topic is a key ability in the modern-day. I have never attempted to write in a blogging format; consequently, I believe that it will be challenging but extremely educational for me as the semester progresses.

The theme of my blog is going to talk about what it means to be a student-athlete at the Mount. Rather than a “day in the life” agenda, I want to address more the deeper meaning and understanding of what it is to be a Mount athlete: What goes into it, and what comes out. I think that it is a great honor to play for a university with such a rich history. Every time that you put on university's uniform, you are playing for something bigger than yourself.  I hope to reflect on how this has impacted me in my development as an athlete and as a person over the course of this semester.

Make sure to check back next week for more posts from my classmates and for what's to come next in My View of MSMU!
