Why I Came to the Mount

Thomas Grothmann, C'22

Hello, my name is Tommy Grothmann, and I am a senior at the Mount majoring in Business with a concentration in Finance. I really enjoy these two topics as I have a deep interest in the stock market along with an interest in how supply and demand influence the economy. I decided to come to the Mount because they offer a great business program here which provides a lot of connections and personal relationships with very experienced professors.

My older brother Mark also came to the Mount and graduated in 2019, so coming up to visit him several times really sparked my interest to come to school here too. It was not until I got to the Mount that I figured out that they had so much more to offer than what I had previously thought. I really wanted to strengthen my skills in the finance area so I can show a company when I graduate that I will be very beneficial to aiding them in success.

I realized that this was not the only thing I needed. Nothing happens without good communication and writing skills which is why I am taking this class. I feel that I have gotten better at writing and communicating, but still have a lot to improve. Good writing gets the words passed along concisely and clearly, which will help me to be more professional in my emails and simple communication in the workplace.

This semester I will be talking to you, the members of the Mount community, about why I came to the Mount and how skiing, hiking, and the outdoors were a major factor in my decision to come here. I feel that if I can convey my deep interest to you, I will be able to inspire you to try something new and explore new areas. Many people say that there is not much to do around this campus, but I beg to differ. This semester I will show you how great the Mount can be if you give the surrounding areas a chance.

I encourage all of you to check back here for weekly posts and to read my fellow classmates posts, too.
