AMP Activities

Tommy Grothmann, C'22

AMP is the Activities Management Program on campus that is run by students for students. They put on events for students both on and off campus. I realize that many of the events do not appeal to a lot of people but the ones that encourage you to go to a sporting event or are held off campus can be a lot of fun. For example, I liked to get all my friends to go to the basketball tailgates held at the PAC because there would be free food, refreshments, and alcohol if you are old enough to drink. There would also be a raffle with a very good prize at the end of the tailgate before you head over to the game.

I know that a lot of people still do not have interest in all of that, but if you just gather up some of your friends or your hallmates to go together, it could be a blast! With these events taking place, it is easy to see a person that you may recognize from your hall that you may want to go up and talk to. Odds are that you are both there to meet friends and you never know when you will meet a lifetime friend!

As for the events that AMP hosts off campus, the popular one with my friend group is bowling. Bowling is at Sunshine Lanes in Waynesboro, which is only about a 12-minute drive from the Mount. It is a blast to all get together and do something on a weeknight that does not revolve around school. If you check your Mount email, you will often see messages from AMP and you can start to plan for them.

I know that this blog post does not stick with my normal theme of "fun things to do off campus," but AMP is still worth the mention as they allow students to break off from their normal routine. I encourage you all to check back next week for my next update on events off campus that my friends and I like to do!
