Recovery Time

Russell Armstrong, C'22

After some unfortunate matches, and the cancellation of our annual spring break trip, the Men's Tennis team has had some time off. Coming back from Boston on Monday, we had a full week where we were able to rest and recover as the two 8-hour rides and matches took a lot out of us. I personally was able to drive up to Canada and enjoy some time with my girlfriend's family. While we are all eager to get back on the court, we were grateful to be able to use the time to recover mentally and physically.

We have subsequently spent the week after spring break resuming our 7:00 a.m. practices Monday through Friday and 7:00-8:00 p.m. lifts on Tuesday and Thursday. Nothing really exciting happened and not much has occurred to write on, but I figured that this week I could offer more a reflection of how the season has felt for me as a whole so far.

Graduating this year has really given me a lot of perspective and allowed me to step back and really enjoy what I am doing. The thought of me potentially never playing the sport I have played for the past 11 years again (at least competitively), makes me appreciate each and every time I am out on the court. With around a month and a half of the season left, I am really just trying to take it all in. The good, the bad, the wins, the losses... all of it. At the end of the day, all it's going to be is a memory and I want to enjoy it so that when I look back five years from now, I have no regrets.
