Week 5 of Senior Year

Luke Smist, C'22

Over the last week, some surprising things have happened. Last Friday, we had a classic, beautiful spring day here at the Mount. My friends and I decided to have a big grill session at the swim house off campus and played some backyard games. While this was an incredible break from the cold weather, it proved to give me false hope about the end of the snowy season because to my complete surprise, I woke up the next morning to 4 inches of snow on my car the next morning!

If this was not enough excitement, after a big weekend of going to the local bar Otts with just about the entire senior class at the Mount, I managed to get out of bed Sunday morning to attend the Mount vs. Bryant women’s basketball Northeast Conference championship game. While this was extremely exciting to watch, I was not surprised to see our girls win the NEC title for a second straight year in a row. Watching them defeat Bryant was very satisfying, but I was even happier to watch the ladies celebrate. I believe that this is because as a fellow student-athlete, I saw those girls put in the work, firsthand, everyday at the ARCC. Therefore, I truly believe that they earned and deserved that NEC title more than any other team in the Conference. After the big win, a few of my friends and I decided to head down to the Springfield Winery that is right down 15 from campus in order to celebrate our women’s basketball team’s victory.

Weekends like these have started to become awfully precious to me as a senior in their my semester here at Mount St. Mary's. I realize that soon all of this fun and time with my friends will be coming to a bitter-sweet end. For now, I try and make sure to appreciate every moment and enjoy these final days at school with the lifelong friends that I have made here.
