How to Motivate yourself

Student Strategies on How to Find Motivation

When you wake up not having the urge to get up and start your day, it is an unwanted feeling of being unmotivated. I have had days where I just wanted to sleep the day away, knowing that there was a full day of work to be done ahead of me. In other instances, like any natural human being, sometimes those unmotivated feelings got the best of me. Whatever the case was, I told myself that it was time to push through it.

Generally, when I felt unmotivated, it was due to strenuous days of studying and writing one paper after another. Because I spent a significant amount of time on schoolwork, I often struggled to prioritize making time for myself. It is essential to balance your school schedule and other activities as a college student.

Here is how I found my balance: When I started taking time out of my day to do things that I liked, such as going on a run, painting, and even surrounding myself with my peers, it helped me stay on track and push me to complete my schoolwork. This also helped me clear my head when I felt anxious or overwhelmed; clearly, the negative feelings were turning into positive feelings.

In other instances when I didn't feel motivated, my eating and sleeping schedule was off from a study overload from the night before. Having a healthy, balanced diet and sleeping schedule is another crucial factor in finding motivation. Your body needs 7-8 hours to rest. The human mind and body are like working machines. For it to work properly, we need to give the proper amount of rest. Your water intake is another critical factor that people often struggle to do. Your day should always start with water, as it is the key to staying hydrated.

Sometimes we often fall into the trap of putting our work and studies first rather than putting the most important thing above all: yourself. Apart from being motivated comes from adequately taking care of ourselves. When in doubt, take time to do something that makes you happy and pushes you forward!
