Grad School Here We Come

Here I share my interests in why I'm choosing to continue my education as a grad school student.

As I finish off my last semester as an undergraduate senior at the Mount, my goal is to further my education as a graduate student. The goal is to be enrolled by Fall 2022; however, I am open to waiting till Spring of 2023 or longer. As a senior, I have had the time to explore my options of what I want to do after undergrad. Often times, it has made me anxious because I fear being in a place where I am doing absolutely nothing after I graduate. While I know that sometimes things do not work out as planned, usually we end up somewhere other than the worst case scenario, which is often where our minds take us, at least initially.

Fears of ending up doing nothing after I graduate stemmed from moments through my freshman and sophomore year of college. At that point in time, I struggled to maintain a decent grade point average while learning that high school didn’t prepare me for what was about to come in college. This was all a learning experience that has shaped me into a better student because I am more driven and my focus is to finish on a great note. This past fall, I made Dean's List and gained more experience in broadcast journalism through campus activities and internships, which I think positions me well for a decent future, even if it isn't clear what exactly that future will entail righ tnow.

The outstanding performance that I have been able to achieve is mainly directed to why I want to go to grad school. The decision to further my education in grad school has mainly come from these past four years of trial and error at the Mount. With the limited exposure I have had to Broadcast Journalism, I would like to expand on the experiences I have gained here. I feel like my education in this field isn’t over, but I also feel like this is where the majority of my accomplishments have been so I hope that it means I will be successful in pursuing it further. I want to be fully equipped and have experiences that will help me to pursue a career in Broadcast Journalism.

From being a Communication major at the Mount, this institution has opened my eyes to the different possibilities that I can pursue with a degree in Communication. Within my time being here, I have enjoyed writing for The Mountain Echo, our school's newspaper, and having my own radio show on the WMTB radio station. I'm currently working in the iLead office under the Voice of Leadership Podcast which has also been a great internship experience. Through it all, I am grateful for the diverse culture of students, staff, and faculty and hope to use that exposure in my next chapter of education.
