With only five weeks left in semester, the weather is finally starting to get nice. Although it's been rainy recently, we’re finally in April, which means the spring weather should be coming very soon. Being in the mountains on Mount St. Mary’s University’s beautiful campus could cause the weather to be much colder since we are at a higher altitude. And while it has been cold quite a few times over the past couple of weeks, there have been some days in which the weather has been absolutely beautiful. With the weather getting nicer, it means that there’s going to be more activities for students at the Mount to partake it, whether they’re school-related or not.
While the school does run a lot of outdoor activities for the nice weather, there are plenty of other non-school related activities for students on campus to do as well. Students can go on a walk, throw a football around, and even play volleyball on the courts on campus. Not only does the nice weather provide more opportunities for individuals to enjoy nature and the outdoors, but in my opinion, the nice weather puts individuals in a better all-around mood. While it is not scientifically proven that nicer weather can have a positive effect on an individual’s mood, I just feel as if having more activities to do and enjoying the weather can definitely improve one’s mood.
Being from Brooklyn, New York, it was a very hard transition coming to Emmitsburg, Maryland. Brooklyn is a very highly populated city and, in my neighborhood, we have parks, fields, movie theatres, and many restaurants within walking distance. And since Emmitsburg is not very populated, there isn’t really much to do within even 20 minutes of walking distance. Therefore, I feel as if when I’m home in the winter, I have activities I could still do, but when I’m at school, there’s no where really too close that we can go besides the library, and the weather is too cold to enjoy any activities outside.
Altogether, there’s many reasons why I’m so excited for the spring weather, and I’m sure every other Mount student is as well.
