Week 12 of Senior Year

Luke Smist, C'22

Week 12 of senior year began with me rushing as fast as I could to hand in assignments before the start of Easter break, but before the break, I attended the Mount's women's golf tournament. I watched my girlfriend play against several different schools at the tournament, and I had the pleasure of meeting her parents and sister. Right after this, I had an interview with another construction company. While I feel that the interview went very well, I am still anxiously waiting for a response from this company.

Before I went home for break, I made sure to spend time with my friends here at the Mount to celebrate several birthdays. To celebrate, we all went to downtown Frederick where we got dinner at a nice place called the Shucking Shack. After our night out, we all went home for Easter break, which most universities don't have. I'm glad the Mount does!

My break was eventful and packed with many ups and a rather big down. For example, I finished fixing the plumbing on my new boat and we got to take it out for a test drive, but shortly after that fun adventure we, unfortunately, received the news that my father's mother passed away. While this came as a major shock, we understood that she lived to be 99 years old, and we have been trying to look at it as positively as we can. So the rest of my Easter break was spent discussing her and her impact on our lives. For example, my clearest memory of my grandmother was that she played a significant role in teaching me to read growing up. Her influence on our family was nothing short of remarkable and she will be forever missed.

I'm back at the Mount now, ready to take on the last few weeks of my undergraduate career. Check back again to see what the next weeks bring me.
