There are several breaks in the academic calendar... but which is the best?
Scheduled breaks in the academic calendar offer a much-needed respite to students and faculty alike. They are a brief escape, an opportunity to go home, shake off some stress, and have some fun.
But which of the several academic breaks is the best? In this piece, we'll break down the three major breaks (fall, winter, and spring) and rate each.
Fall Break
Fall break is nice but, in a way, it comes too early. It comes around before we're truly sick of school. It's fun to get home, but it isn't really necessary yet.
JACK'S VERDICT: 5.5/10
Winter Break
Winter break gets some bonus points simply because it is the longest of the three breaks that occur during the year. Plus, during winter break we get to celebrate holidays like Christmas and New Years. There's also no stress because it comes after the end of the first semester.
All in all, winter break is a great one. The only downside is weather, but even that can be escaped on vacation!
JACK'S VERDICT: 9.5/10
Spring Break
Spring break, like fall break, almost seems to fall too early in the semester. It occurs when we're not yet tired of school.
However, just because it is later in the year, it does feel more needed. Because of that, it gets a boost over fall break.
JACK'S VERDICT: 7/10
