Presidents Trainor and Kleinhanzl cut the ribbon

Frederick Health President and CEO Tom Kleinhanzl and Mount St. Mary's President Tim Trainor cut the ceremonial ribbon.

Frederick Health and Mount St. Mary's University are pleased to announce the opening of a new, state-of-the-art healthcare facility located in Emmitsburg, Maryland. This facility was built on land leased from Mount St. Mary’s University for $1 and will provide award-winning local care to residents of the area as well as students and faculty from the Mount.

By constructing this facility, Frederick Health continues to support its mission to positively impact the well-being of every individual in the community.

“Frederick Health Emmitsburg, the 23rd location in our network, will offer vital and accessible health care services,” said Tom Kleinhanzl, President & CEO of Frederick Health. “This location is a testament to our dedication to residents of Frederick County and beyond.”

The facility, which broke ground in October 2021, will open to Mount students on August 18, 2022, and to the public on or around August 22, 2022.

Frederick Health was pleased to work with Mount St. Mary’s University, an institution with nearly 215 years of history in the Frederick community. As part of their agreement, Mount St. Mary’s University graciously leased for $1 the land upon which the facility was constructed. This facility, which will be operated by Frederick Health, will also serve as the university’s new student health center. Students will now have access to healthcare on campus on weekends and evenings. The hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.

Trainor, Ph.D., president of Mount St. Mary’s University. “As we have watched the rapid construction of Frederick Health Emmitsburg, anticipation has been building for the fulfillment of our joint commitment to enhanced health and wellness services for students and the local community.”

That dedication to the community is important to both Frederick Health and Mount St. Mary’s University.

“This is a great day for the university and surrounding communities," stated Trainor.

Frederick County Executive Jan Gardner applauded the partnership between two organizations with "a legacy of service and care" for making life better for the people of Frederick County. "It's best to bring healthcare to people where they are and where they need it," she said, noting that people often are unable to access healthcare due to transportation issues.

U.S. Rep David Trone was unable to attend the event, but his director of outreach, Sarah Roth, brought a Certificate of Congressional Recognition from the congressman which reads: "In recognition and celebration of your grand opening. Thank you to Frederick Health and Mount St. Mary's for coming together to provide award-winning local care to residents of the area as well as students and faculty from the Mount. Thank you for keeping our community healthy."
