Carved in the stone above the main entrance, the inscription Per Verbum Ad Verbum greets all who enter Phillips Library. The epigram translates to "Through the written word to the Word Divine."

library-main-floor_-1960-in-text.jpgAs described in The Mountaineer, the “truthful words of man carefully preserved in books help us to know God all the better, for ultimately God is Truth and Truth is God.” You can view the original brochure from when the new library opened in 1960 at this link.

Today, library use may look a bit different. Students may opt for eBooks or electronic articles over traditional print texts. However, library-main-floor_-nov-2023-1-in-text.jpgPhillips Library is busier than ever. It is the heart of campus and abuzz with students collaborating, researching, and studying together. While the mode of knowledge may have changed over the years, Phillips Library remains a place where all may learn and grow closer to God.
