Mount St. Mary’s University has extended its deadline to deposit for Fall 2024 enrollment to May 15 because of the recent announcement by the U.S. Department of Education regarding the delay in processing of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) data until mid-March.

The extension is meant to give families more time to consider their financial aid awards to attend the Mount.

“We know how important the decision to attend college is,” said Jack Chielli, the university’s vice president of enrollment management. “We want to make sure families considering the Mount have the time to fully understand their financial aid packages.”

The U.S. Department of Education recently announced that they will not be processing data from the FAFSA until the first half of March. FAFSA information is essential for the Mount to provide a financial aid package that includes need-based aid and government loans.

While the FAFSA rollout has been challenging, the new form provides hope to prospective Mount students and parents. It is easier to fill out and will provide more federal aid to students—making the cost of going to college more affordable. The delays will not affect institutional grants and scholarships provided by the university.

“Families applying to the Mount should fill out the FAFSA now and add our school code—002086. This will allow our financial aid office to provide financial aid packages as soon as FAFSA data is available,” Chielli said.
