Mount St. Mary’s University’s College of Liberal Arts welcomes Jeremy D. Wilkins, Ph.D., associate professor of theology at Boston College and director of the Lonergan Institute, as the 2024 lecturer for the Msgr. Tinder Speaker Series. The talk will be given at 4:30 p.m. on October 16 in Laughlin Auditorium.
Wilkins brings a wealth of experience, including his book Before Truth: Lonergan, Aquinas, and the Problem of Wisdom, published in 2018. He earned his bachelor’s degree at Washington University in St. Louis, and completed graduate studies in theology at several universities. He received his Ph.D. from Boston College, where he defended his dissertation in systematic and historical theology titled, “Emanatio Intelligiblis in Deo: A Study of the Horizon and Development of Thomas Aquinas’s Trinitarian Theology.”
Wilkins claims that many American Christians have lost their roots due to confusion over their responsibilities as Church members, mistaking the contradiction of the Gospel for political conflict and overinvesting in political solutions to cultural and religious problems. Accordingly, his talk is titled, "A Sign of Contradiction? The Problem of Christianity in American Politics.”
The Msgr. Tinder Speaker Series is named in honor of the late Msgr. Dennis Tinder, C’64, S’68. Guest speakers give an annual lecture on a topic related to the Catholic Intellectual Tradition.
