Graduate Assistant, Marketing and Communications

The College of Liberal Arts at Mount St. Mary’s University and the broader Mount community have extended a warm welcome to Assistant Professor of Political Science, Yujin Jung, Ph.D.

Yujin JungJung completed her undergraduate and master’s studies in Hanyang, Korea, and then brought her talent to the United States, where she obtained a Ph.D. at the University of Missouri. Her research centers around the rise of populism and its consequences. She was led to this field after growing up in Seoul, South Korea, where she observed populist attitudes and phenomena.

She has completed several internships, including working for Voice of America, a group that sends broadcasts to countries that experience little freedom and democracy. She also completed an internship with the United Nations translating refugee statements.

Her skills and talents will greatly benefit the Mount, and the students and faculty have an opportunity to learn from her and her experiences living and learning across the world. Jung has found the Mount St. Mary’s University campus to be an intimate community where beauty and serenity abound. She has been impressed by the diversity of the student population and how they come together to engage in productive conversations. Students’ critical thinking has also stood out to her during both lecture and seminar style instruction. She hopes her students can make use not only of the content they learn in the class but also of the analytical reasoning and thought processes behind it throughout their lives.
