Amy Struntz Inducted to Alumni Hall of Fame

Amy Struntz, C’97, is the School of Education’s 2025 recipient of the Academic Circle of Excellence Alumni Hall of Fame. Struntz is a dedicated educator who has held a variety of roles in her career with Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). 

Amy StruntzThroughout her career, Struntz has prioritized giving back to both her alma mater and the Frederick County community. During her time as a classroom teacher, she hosted numerous teacher candidates, helping to mentor and prepare future educators. She also assisted the Mount through the process of obtaining national accreditation and more recently served as a member of the quality assurance review team when the School of Education was reaccredited by the Association for Advancing the Quality of Educator Preparation. 

“It is truly an honor to receive this award. As a lifelong resident of Frederick County, I am proud to have attended college here and completed my student internship within the community I call home. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to dedicate my entire career to teaching in Frederick County Public Schools (FCPS). 

Her various roles within FCPS have also allowed her to collaborate with Mount St. Mary’s University, preparing future educators for a rewarding career in education. It is a true blessing to give back to the university that laid the foundation for my journey as an educator. Thank you for this incredible honor.” shared Struntz 

As an undergraduate, Struntz was a member of Pi Lambda Theta, the education honors society. After completing her Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education, she went on to obtain a master’s degree in reading specialization from Hood College, and a school administrator certificate from McDaniel College.  

Struntz started her career with FCPS after graduating from the Mount, first working as an elementary school teacher. After earning her master’s degree, she served as a literacy specialist. 

In 2012, Struntz began a position as a teacher specialist for professional learning, eventually moving into her current FCPS role as supervisor of induction and professional learning. She also chairs the professional development school leadership team.  

Struntz previously has been recognized for her outstanding contributions to education. In 2022, she was awarded the Professional Development School Partner in Education award from Hood College, and in 2023, she received the Friends of Education Award from the Mount. 

“We’re thrilled to once again honor and recognize Amy Struntz as a dedicated and innovative educator,” shared Dean of the School of Education Barbara Marinak, Ph.D. “Amy’s tireless efforts on behalf of her students, fellow educators, and the Mount is inspiring.” 

Struntz has shared her work as a speaker at several conferences, including the National Learning Forward Conference, Frostburg State University National Leadership Conference, the Maryland Assessment Conference, and most recently at the Festival of Education Conference.  

In her free time, Struntz enjoys reading, staying active at her local gym, and participating in running events. She also loves visiting her grown children and traveling with her husband, Eric.
