Hey everyone! If you’re thinking about transferring to the Mount, I totally get how overwhelming the process can feel. When I graduated high school, COVID had just hit, and I had no idea what I wanted to do or major in. So, I started at Frederick Community College, figuring it would give me time to explore my interests. That’s where I took a public speaking class—and that one class completely changed everything for me. I realized how much I loved communications, and from that point on, I knew that’s what I wanted to pursue.
Fast forward two years, and it was time to transfer. I applied to a few schools, including the University of Maryland and the College of Charleston, but both felt way too big for me. The application processes were complicated, and I kept feeling like I was just another name on a long list of applicants. It was hard to get my questions answered, and I started worrying that I wouldn’t have the support I needed once I got there.
Then I got accepted to the Mount, and the experience was completely different. An advisor personally reached out to me and set up a meeting to answer my questions. Not only that, but I was also able to talk directly with the Communication Department chair to figure out how my degree plan would work since I was coming in with my associate degree. It felt so personal—like the school cared about me as a student before I had even officially committed. That was the moment I knew this was the right place for me.
If you’re looking to transfer, here are a few tips to make the process easier:
● Meet with an admissions counselor early. They’ll help you plan out your schedule, and in my case, all my credits transferred—which is super rare! I couldn’t find that at a lot of the other schools I considered.
● Check out the Mount’s website for clubs and organizations. There are so many ways to get involved, and having something lined up before you start makes the transition less intimidating.
● Go to orientation days! Meeting other transfer students early on makes such a difference, especially since transferring to a new school can feel lonely in the beginning.
The transfer process at the Mount was seamless, and the faculty made everything so easy. I never felt like I was figuring things out alone, and that’s what made this school stand out from the rest. If you’re considering transferring, I highly recommend reaching out and experiencing the community’s supportiveness yourself.
I can’t wait to share more about my experiences at the Mount—stay tuned for more posts!
