On top of two 10-page essays to write this week, I have been busy applying for jobs. Today, I'm here to talk to you all about the process and the highs and lows you might experience along the way.
The real ones will know that the title of this blog is an Imagine Dragons reference. On top of Imagine Dragons being my favorite band, I find myself saying these words to myself a lot as I've been applying for jobs. However, the job market is definitely hit or miss right now. Despite applying to dozens of jobs, I've only heard back from two for a potential interview: a special needs organization to be their office coordinator and the congressman's office I interned with for their staff assistant position. I'm not upset by any means that I haven't found something yet. Sure, I would ideally like to have a job lined up before I walk the stage, but I know that the right thing will come along soon. I trust in God's plan.
I have to remind myself that my path isn't going to be the same as others. Right now, I know tons of people who have jobs lined up to start after graduation. Yesterday, I found out six people I went to school with (whether grade school, high school or college) have gotten engaged within the last few days! It's hard not to feel the FOMO and wanting to be a part of that crowd. As much as I'd love to be at that point in my life by now, I know I'm probably not ready for it yet. It's crazy how my parents were 21 and 24 when they married and were the first of their classmates to get married and have kids. But 23 or so years later, it's the reverse. I have plenty of friends and old classmates that own homes, are married, or have children already. For some, it has been years! Even before I left for college.
It sounds crazy and it's difficult not to feel behind, but I'm where I'm meant to be. I'm about to cross into uncharted territory. I hadn't imagined my path to be like this at all. For one, I didn't think I'd make it to college, let alone to graduation, so who was I to imagine anything beyond it?
Admittedly, I still don't know exactly what I want to do with my life, but I have a pretty good idea. I'm optimistic for the future and quite hopeful. With finals nearly done, I can breathe a little easier and enjoy these last few moments I have living on this mountain and being with my friends before we inevitably have to part.
I'll see you all in my next and final blog post!
