Hi everyone! Welcome to my last blog post of the semester! Today I will be talking about the last few tweaks before MAACs and rolling into summer miles!
MAAC Championships are just around the corner, and the taper has begun! During this season, I raced two 5k's at the beginning of the season and finished off with two 3k's. I will be racing the 5k at MAACs, so the 3k's are great to get some speedwork in!
The time leading up to MAACs can be a little bit stressful considering that the semester is ending, and we have finals in addition to races but, it is important to remember to stay focused on the "now." Being a student-athlete means that we have to put our academics first. This year we have finals before championships so we can fully focus on those, while still tuning up on our fitness.
During the taper, our mileage is lower than usual, which allows our bodies to recover and be ready to go on race day! We also have a few workouts, and those workouts are very important for fine-tuning. We are encouraged to stretch and stay as loose as possible.
After being in the cycle of injury, and not making it through one whole season yet, I am grateful for this outdoor season. It can be hard to not be able to do the thing you love but, before you know it, you will be back out there.
