Stacey Brown-Hobbs, Ph.D., C’85, chair and director of teacher education, has been promoted to the dean of the School of Education, effective July 1. An expert in accreditation, assessment and effective practices in mentoring and supervising teacher candidates, Brown-Hobbs is widely respected in Maryland, the Mid-Atlantic states and nationwide.
Angela Mucci-Guido, Ph.D., director of the Center for Catholic School Excellence (CCSE) and lecturer in the School of Education, has been named chair and director of teacher education. She will continue in her role with the CCSE.
“I am confident Drs. Brown-Hobbs and Mucci-Guido will continue the innovative efforts seen in the School of Education over the past several years,” said President Jerry Joyce, Ph.D. “They are creative leaders who will continue to train exceptional educators and confidently explore new opportunities.”
After graduating from the Mount with a bachelor of science in elementary education, Brown-Hobbs taught in Frederick County Public Schools’ general education classrooms and magnet gifted and talented program. During this period, she earned a Master of Arts in administration and supervision from Hood College and completed post-graduate work in educational policy, planning and administration at University of Maryland College Park.
Brown-Hobbs joined the Mount’s faculty in 1997 and earned a doctorate in instructional leadership for changing populations from Notre Dame of Maryland University in 2012. She has led three successful accreditations of the Mount’s School of Education.
As director of CCSE since 2023, Mucci-Guido has continued to expand the Mount’s high school dual enrollment program by strengthening continuing relationships and forging new partnerships across the mid-Atlantic region. She earned her Ph.D. in 2011 in special education from the University of South Florida and has taught at the Mount since August 2011. She also has taught at University of South Florida and Salve Regina University.
