Gabrielle Hendricks, C’25, received a partial scholarship from the University of Salamanca in Spain, in recognition of her selection as a Fulbright semifinalist. She will start graduate school there this fall.
“My love for Spain and Spanish culture inspired me to apply for the master’s in Global and International Studies at the University of Salamanca (USAL) through Fulbright. I fell in love with Spain through two summer study abroad trips with Associate Professor of World Languages Diana Rodriguez-Lozano, Ph.D.,” she shared.
The award Hendricks had applied and been selected as semifinalist for would have allowed her to earn her master’s degree at USAL through Fulbright. Although she wasn’t ultimately chosen for the Fulbright, USAL honored her semifinalist status by accepting her to Global and International Studies program and awarding her scholarship—a first for Mount students who have been Fulbright semifinalists.
Hendricks, who double majored in Spanish and international studies, is thrilled by the outcome of her application. “[As an undergraduate] I took political theology with Associate Professor of Theology and Director of the Politics, Philosophy and Economics Program Barrett Turner, Ph.D., and I fell even more in love with USAL as we read the works of Francisco de Vitoria in his class, who is known as ‘the father of international relations.’ The rich history of the school and the opportunity to study what I am most interested in make USAL the perfect fit,” she exclaimed.
