Mount St. Mary’s University’s Division of Continuing Studies (DCS) hosted a successful Career Development Day at the Frederick Campus, bringing together students and local employers for an afternoon of networking, professional insight, and community partnership.

The event featured a career fair from 3–5 p.m., followed by a mixer and interactive panel discussion. Seven diverse organizations participated in the fair, including:

  • Target Community & Educational Services, Inc.
  • The United States Army
  • Ally Behavior Centers
  • ClearView Communities
  • Global Life
  • Adventist HealthCare
  • Frederick County Economic Development

Approximately 15 students attended, engaging directly with recruiters, sharing resumes, and exploring employment opportunities across education, healthcare, government, nonprofit, and business sectors.

Following the fair, students gathered for a candid panel discussion with a group of dynamic professionals representing various industries and career journeys:

  • Dr. Adrienne White – Dean of Students, Mount St. Mary’s University
  • CMSgt (Ret.) Rochelle Hemingway – CEO and Founder of Slay to Success, U.S. Air Force Veteran (30 years)
  • Dr. Arielle Jordan – Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Owner of Mindset Quality LLC, U.S. Army Veteran (10 years)
  • Joseph Hayden – Deputy Director, Frederick County Parks and Recreation
  • Marshall Mott – MBA Graduate Student, Mount St. Mary’s University

One of the most resonant takeaways from the discussion was the reminder that “your career path is rarely straight and narrow.” Students were encouraged to embrace exploration, remain adaptable, and pursue purpose—not just positions.

Valerie Pearson, Director of Recruitment for the Division of Continuing Studies, applauded the collaboration behind the event:

“I am thankful for the Career Center’s partnership on this event. Frederick offers so many opportunities to our Mount students, and the Division of Continuing Studies is proud to facilitate connecting Mount students with the resources and employers in Frederick.”

The DCS Career Development Day reinforced the Mount’s commitment to supporting non-traditional and working adult learners through hands-on career access, employer partnerships, and real-world mentorship.
