Career Corner Introduction

Welcome to the Career Corner! My name is Meghan Wittmer and I am a senior here at the Mount majoring in business. I am honored to be the new Writing Intern for the Career Center. Many thanks to our previous intern, Tim Johnson, for his informative articles last semester! I hope you find the articles here on the Career Corner Blog and in the Mountain Echo informative, inspirational, and helpful.

My goal as the Writing Intern is to educate you on what is happening here at the Career Center. There is always something going on, from career fairs to employer visits to resume workshops. Statistics show that the more you are involved with your school’s career center, the more successful you will be after graduation. That is why I encourage you to become frequent visitors of the Career Center. We are here to help you make the most of your college education and be prepared for life after the Mount, so you should make visiting us a priority! You do not want to graduate without a job and wish you had visited the Career Center more often during your time at the Mount.
During my past three years here at Mount St. Mary’s, I have attended many Career Center events that have helped me prepare for my future. I have also spoken with staff members who have helped me decide on a major, update my resume, and search for internships. Now that I am a senior, I am grateful for the opportunities the Career Center offers that allow me to fine-tune my interviewing and networking skills. These include mock interviews, LinkedIn workshops, and the etiquette dinner. The etiquette dinner not only serves delicious food, but also teaches students how to behave at a formal dinner. All of these activities are open to every grade level, but I specifically encourage seniors to participate.
The Career Center is your bridge from the Mount to the working world. We will help you build a sturdy foundation upon which you can seamlessly transition from college to career. Come visit us on the 2nd floor of McGowan, Monday thru Friday from 8:30am to 5pm. Give us a call, email us, or come talk to a staff member if you have any questions.
