Mount Hosts Workshop on Computer Science Education

The Mount St. Mary's University School of Education on November 16 hosted a workshop offered by the Maryland Center for Computing Education (MCCE) and the Maryland Computer Science Teachers Association (CSTA-MD).

mcce-pod.jpgThe workshop was part of an initiative to expand access to high-quality computer science education, strengthen the computer science skills of educators and increase the number of computer science teachers through the development of preservice programs.  In the spring, the School of Education was awarded a grant to support these efforts.

Numerous professional development opportunities have been offered through MCCE and CSTA-MD to enrich these initiatives.  Attending the workshop at the Mount, which offered professional development for PK-12 teachers and supervisors as well as university faculty and administration, were Professor Lori Sheetz, coordinator of computing education; Laura Frazier, Ph.D., director of the Center for Instructional Design and Delivery; and Stacey Brown-Hobbs, Ph.D., director of teacher education.
